Spencer Parker and his Records

Could you present yourself ?
Hello, my name is Spencer and I make and play house music…
How did you discover music in general?
I guess the radio first of all, staying up late to tape the Tim Westwood Rap Show on Capital Radio in London, buying records I heard on that show, and then, later, buying the music I heard when I started going to clubs.
What was the first record you ever had?
I’d love to say it was a really cool hip hop album or a great old school disco track, but it was, in fact, a 7 inch of the Ghostbusters theme tune by Ray Parker Junior ! : )
What was Your first record in electronic music?
I honestly can’t remember ! I started buying records just to remind me of great nights when I started clubbing – if I had a fun night at a club I would always kind of remember my favourite track – and then hunt it down and buy it. It would probably be something like “Valley Of The Shadows” by Origin Unknown or maybe the MK remix of Masters At Work “I Can’t Get No Sleep” (still one of my favourite records !)

The record you would love to find?
I’m definitely after a copy of Jeanette Thomas “Shake Your Body”, which is not toooooo tricky to get, but I’ve not gotten around to it just yet….
The record you can’t stop to play?
Blaze “Lovlee Dae” – I met a lovely, really beautiful girl once and I’d (somehow?!?!?!) just never heard this record  - and she bought me a copy on vinyl, as a gift. So not only is it a great record, but it has some nice memories too…
The record which makes you happy when you wake up?
Los Diablos “Un Rayo Del Sol”
The record you listen to under your shower?
Depends on whatever has been on my ipod at the gym the few hours before… let’s just say tha Rihanna is well represented… : )
The record which makes you crying?
“Elevator Beat” by Nancy Wilson or maybe “Everybody Hurts” by REM
The record you will take with you in your grave?
“Always Look On the Bright Side Of Life” by Eric Idle
The record you would like to be played for your funeral?
Well, if it was my funeral – I’d definitely want some drama and as many tears as possible, but at the same time – I’d like to keep it a little hopeful and upbeat… Everyone goes for some shit like “What A Wonderful World” or “Imagine” so I’d have to plump for something classy like “Me Voy A Morir De Tanto Amor” by Alberto Iglesias.
The record you would like to be played for your wedding?
Definitely Kath Bloom “Come Here” …….or maybe Tammy Wynette “Stand By Your Man” ; )
The record you were always listening to when you were a teenager?
“It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back” by Public Enemy !
The record you would have dreamed to sing on?
“You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)” by Sylvester
The record you lost and you can’t find anymore?
I had an amazing white label of  a house remix of Radiohead “Everything In Its Right Place” (no, not the Karizma version)  - It was really tastefully done and a great end of night record- and I know I would never have sold it- but im damned if I can find it !!!!
Thank you very much for your answers and see you soon at REX!!
De rien ;  )
And yes- see you all at Rex – can’t wait to return – LOVE that club!
